Merchant Navy Eligibility Criteria?

Eligibility criteria for Merchant Navy (DNS, B.Sc. in Nautical Science, GME, Marine Engineering, GP Rating) are different for different fields. In this article we will see each one of them. We will see minimum eligibility criteria prescribed by IMU but for different colleges it may differ.

Eligibility Criteria For DNS

  • Educational Qualification: From a recognized board with Minimum 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), 60% aggregate in 10+2 OR

   B.Sc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Electronics+Physics with minimum         60% aggregate in final year and Candidate must have done 10+2 with minimum     60% in PCM from a recognized board OR

   B.E. / B.Tech. degree with aggregate of 60% in the final year from IIT or College     recognized by AICTE/UGC and Candidate must have done 10+2 with minimum         60% in PCM from a recognized board.

   In addition to either of the above, 50% in English either in 10th or 12th.

   Note: Most of the Shipping companies prefer candidates with PCM 70% in first         attempt.

  • Age Limit: Age Limit is between 17.5 to 25 years. Relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST.
  • Eye Sight: 

1. There shall be no evidence of any morbid condition of either eye or of the lids of either eye which may be liable to risk of aggravation or recurrence. Candidates must possess good binocular vision (Fusion faculty and full field of vision in both eyes).

2. Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all directions and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation.

3. Normal colour vision shall be tested by Ishihara test chart.

4. Distance Vision unaided 1.0*(6/6)in better eye and 0.67*(6/9) in other eye.

Eligibility Criteria For B.Sc. In Nautical Science

Eligibility Criteria For GME

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical and Automation Engineering after attending a course of 4 years duration from an UGC recognized University and or approved by AICTE with a minimum marks of 50% in final year and  minimum 50% in English either in 10th or 12th from a recognized board.
  • Age Limit: Maximum age limit is 28 years.
  • Eye Sight: 

1. There shall be no evidence of any morbid condition of either eye or of the lids of either eye which may be liable to risk of aggravation or recurrence. Candidates must possess good binocular vision (Fusion faculty and full field of vision in both eyes).

2. Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all directions and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation.

3. Normal colour vision shall be tested by Ishihara test chart.

4. Distance Vision unaided 0.5*(6/12) in each eye or 0.67*(6/9) in better eye and 0.33*(6/18) in other eye.

Eligibility Criteria For GP Rating

  • Educational Qualification: 10th Standard- Minimum 40% marks with Science, Mathematics as subjects and 40% marks in English at 10th or 12th from a recognized board OR 12th Standard- Minimum 40% marks with any stream and 40% marks in English at 10th or 12th from a recognized board OR ITI course- Pass in 2 year ITI course (Fitter / Machinist / Mechanic / Welder / Turner) approved by DVET with minimum 40% marks in final year of ITI and minimum 40% marks in English at 10th or 12th.
  • Age Limit: Age Limit is between 17.5 to 25 years.
  • Eye Sight:
