Deepest Ocean Trenches
Ocean trench are long narrow, steeped depressions in the ocean surface. Which is formed when one tectonic plate push beneath the other tectonic plate resulting in the formation of steep. In other words Ocean trench are formed by striking of two tectonic plates. 10 Deepest Ocean Trenches are:
1. Mariana Trench

It is the deepest ocean trench in the world also know as Marianas Trench. It is located near south-east of Marina Island in the western north pacific ocean. The deepest point in the entire trench is known as Challenger Deep (named after first ship which surveyed Marina Trench), which is about 10,984 meters deep (different values are given from different surveys). If we compare the Mount Everest with Marina Trench from the very base of it, Mount Everest would still be remain under water. It has a Crescent shape.
2. Tonga Trench
It is the second deepest trench and deepest trench in southern hemisphere. Located in south-west Pacific Ocean, near the boundary of Tonga Ridge forming up to Tonga-Kermadec arc. The deepest point in the entire trench is known as Horizon Deep, which is about 10,882 meters deep.
3. Philippine Trench
It is also known as Philippine Deep, Mindanao Trench. Located in North Pacific Ocean covering the boundary of Mindanao. The deepest point in the entire trench is Galathea Depth, which is about 10,545 meters deep.
4. Kuril-Kamchatka Trench
It is also known as Kurli Trench. Located in north-west Pacific Ocean near the east coast of Kamchatka, Kurli and Hokkaido islands. The deepest point in the entire trench is about 10,542 meters deep.
5. Kermadec Trench
It is located in the South Pacific Ocean near the north-east part of New Zealand covering the boundary of Kermadec ridge. It is formed together with Tonga trench. The deepest point in the entire trench is about 10,047 meters deep.
6. Izu-Bonin Trench



It is also known as Izu-Ogasawara Trench. It starts from south of Japan extending upto northern most part of Marina Trench. It is an extension of Japan Trench. The deepest point in the entire trench is about 9,810 meters deep.
7. Japan Trench



It is located in east of Japanese islands. Kuril Trench, Japan Trench Izu-Bonin Trench and Marina Trench forms a series of depressions. In which Japan Trench is in between Kuril and Izu-Bonin Trench. The deepest point in the entire trench is about 9,000 meters deep.
8. Puerto Rico Trench
It is the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean. It is located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean near the north coast of Puerto Rico island. The deepest point in the entire trench is about 8,376 meters deep.
9. South Sandwich Trench



It is the deepest arcuate trench in the South Atlantic Ocean. Located east of South Sandwich Trench. The deepest point in the entire trench is the Meteor Deep, which is about 8,202 meters deep.
10. Peru-Chile Trench
It is also known as Atacama Trench. Located in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, 100 miles off from the coast of Peru and Chile. The deepest point in the entire trench is known as Richards Deep, which is about 8,065 meters deep.
